Daughters of Norway - Freya Lodge #50

On November 14, 2009, our new Daughters of Norway, Freya Lodge #50, was warmly welcomed by the Grand Lodge and sister member Lodges, at an Institution Ceremony held in Spokane, Washington.

The purpose of Daughters of Norway is to unite into a sisterhood women who wish to preserve Scandinavian heritage, history, culture and language - and to build a strong support system and bond of friendship within the sisterhood.

We gather monthly to share Nordic folk tales, Scandinavian cooking, folk arts, language lessons and more. If you have Scandinavian family ties, or have an interest in Nordic culture, you can become a member - we look forward to seeing you!

NEXT MEETING: Skogfjorden - Norwegian Language Village!

Skogfjorden, at Concordia Norwegian╩Language Village

WHEN: January 24th, 2015
Saturday at 10:00AM

WHERE: Central Lutheran Church at 512 S. Bernard St., Spokane

WHAT: Greetings Freya Sisters! Our January 24th meeting will host members JoAnn Rounsville and Vivian Zagelow, who will give a presentation telling about their experience at Skogfjorden, a Concordia Norwegian Language Village close to Bemidji, Minnesota. Concordia Language Villages offers programs in 15 languages year-round for all ages. At each of the villages, "villagers" immerse themselves in the sights, sounds and tastes of a different culture.

The camp features an array of the authentic music, arts and crafts of Norway. Vivian and JoAnn received expert instruction, in both small and large group settings, catering specifically to each participant's language abilities, from beginners to fluency. They participated in songs, skits, and activities to enjoy the camp, had fun, met new friends, and learned new Norwegian words and phrases.

They will tell of their experiences staying in comfortable cabins and eating meals together with others in the village dining hall. Home-cooked meals featuring the cuisine of Norway was offered. JoAnn has attended the camp for many years while Vivian was a newcomer who thoroughly enjoyed the experience!

Hope you can join us!
